A man is due to appear in court on murder charges today, after the death of a New South Wales man early yesterday.

Police say a 31-year-old man got into a fight with a group of people in the early hours of yesterday morning at Narrabri.

They say he was hit on the head several times, collapsed and died in hospital.

Officers later arrested a 22-year-old man from Wee Waa at the same hospital.

He is expected to appear in Moree Local Court today.

First snow of the Winter

Temperatures have plummeted in the last t'ew days and in the Mt Kaputar National Park Winter has really arrived, with a light snow fall last night. "We had about 12mm said National Parks Ranger Jessica Stokes, who supplied the photo of snow sightseers, the Nott family, Damien, Michael, Emily and Marie, "This is the first snow have had during school holidays at this time year for some time" Ranger Stokes added. No doubt there will be more to come as the weather stays cool. , Visitors to the National Park are urged to check with the NPWS Narrabri office regarding road conditions before setting of to see the snow.

Narrabri emergency landing under investigation

An inquiry is under way into engine problems aboard a QantasLink flight that was forced to make an emergency landing yesterday at Narrabri in north-west New South Wales.

The pilot of the plane flying between Sydney, Narrabri and Moree reported there were indications of problems with one of the engines, prompting him to reduce power.

The aircraft, with 37 people aboard, made an emergency landing at Narrabri.

The passengers were kept at Narrabri until the engine could be repaired to enable the plane to continue its journey.

Dendrocide excelsa

This species and other plants in dry rainforest pockets of the Mount Kaputar region are at risk of becoming locally extinct; through impact from fires, feral goats and long periods of drought. Three mature and fertile Giant Stinging Trees were found at this location but no recruitment seeedlings are present at this western limit of distribution of the species.
An explorative walk to a known record form 1994 confirmed the continued survival of at least three individuals.




Celastrus subspicata

Large-leaved Staff Vine occurs here at a western limit, this individual is possible a new most western record.
