The biggest flood since 1954 for the Village of Nymboida

The biggest flood since 1954 for the Village of Nymboida reached 13.4 metres around 2:30 am Saturday morning 23rd February 2013. The water was across the Armidale Road up to the windows in the brick bus shelter.
That night people in Nymboida Village felt the ground shaking as the bulkhead of the No 2 tunnel of the Nymboida Hydro Power Station catastrophically failed. It was near the peak of the flood in the early hours of Saturday morning.
Water from the Nymboida River was gushing uncontrolled and created massive erosion. The Canoe Centre white water course was badly damaged. A high level bridge some kilometres further down stream destroyed. Water is still flowing uncontrolled 10 days later.
Authorities have made little or no comment whilst they are assessing the damage and possible mitigation. The main strategy appears to  wait for the water to drop to a level that allows some access to the river and bulkhead.
The media has been eerily quiet despite the scale of the disaster. Even emergency evacuation warnings issued by the State Emergency Service have been ignored and can't be found on any media sites if one does a simple search.
